Emphasis has been placed on the inherent value of tourist donations in
benefitting local communities and their natural and cultural heritage.
Denis Lebouteux, the director of Mount Kilimanjaro Safari Club 9 (MKSC)
made the statement in reference to donations given by a group of
tourists that his organization coordinated.
Nearly 180 pupils of Ilmisigiyo Primary School in Ngorongoro are the benefactors of European tourists’ donation of desks.
Terming the support as their appreciation to the community’s
conservation efforts, tourists have donated some 60 desks and five
teachers’ tables and chairs valued at an estimated 6 million/-.
The tourists group funded by the European Petroleum Company known as AS
24 expressed their sentiments over Maasai conservation efforts and
reported that to be the motivating factor behind the donation.
“We are overwhelmed by the Maasai indigenous conservation knowledge and
we feel encouraged so the donation is a way to show our appreciation and
acknowledgement of their efforts,” said Brumo Daude Lagrave chairman of
AS 24 Company in a statement released by the group recently.
“It is far from Europe, but we have no regrets in coming as we have
discovered this wonderful country. We will definitely come back to enjoy
these wondrous attractions,” he pledged.
David Mziray, the Ilmisigiyo Primary school head teacher, thanked MKSC
for coordinating the donation as well as tourists for their willingness
to contribute towards the welfare of the Maasai community.
MKSC has been in the forefront in coordinating similar proactive
community based initiatives that have greatly benefitted their
surrounding communities in the Tanzania’s northern tourism circuit.
